St. John’s University To Host Jewish Heritage Day, November 20

“A Day of Remembrance…In Commemoration of the Holocaust”

St. John’s University will present “A Day of Remembrance…In Commemoration of the Holocaust” to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust on Thursday, November 20 in Council Hall on the Queens Campus. 

Joseph Sciame, Vice President for Community Relations at St. John’s University, will extend the welcome greeting at 9:00 a.m. to begin the day and introduce several featured guest speakers including:

  • The Honorable Karen Koslowitz, Deputy Borough President
  • Cantor Sol Zim, Hollis Hills Jewish Center
  • Rabbi Manes Kogan, Hillcrest Jewish Center
  • Rev. Patrick Flanagan, C.M., St. John’s University
  • Rev. Msgr. Guy Massie, Brooklyn Diocese Committee for Catholics and Jews
  • Cynthia Zalisky, Executive Director, Queens Jewish Community Center
  • Dr. Arthur Flug, Executive Director, Kupferberg Holocaust Resource and Archives Center

Over 200 people are expected to attend this cultural event, which includes presentations, video, music and reflections to honor the memory of the Holocaust and those who perished and survived.  Breakfast and lunch will be served. The event will conclude at 1:00 p.m.

In cooperation with the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives of Queensborough Community College, Queens Jewish Council, Queens Jewish Historical Society and Skyline Commons, the event is co-sponsored by the Office of Community Relations and the St. John’s University Jewish Students Association.
