Derek Owens, D.A., Associate Professor of English and Director of St. John’s Institute for Writing Studies
Owens is overseeing the University’s new First-Year Writing Program, which requires every St. John’s freshman to participate in tutorial sessions with writing consultants during the course of the academic year. Owens also is in the process of finalizing the University’s new Writing across the Curriculum program, designed to improve students’ writing in courses other than English. Read more >>
Judith Beizer, Pharm.D., Clinical Professor of Clinical Pharmacy Practice
Beizer currently serves as President of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). A long-time advocate for excellence in healthcare for seniors and people with chronic illness, she is described by College of Pharmacy Dean Robert Mangione as “one of the top five geriatric therapeutics experts in the country.” Dr. Beizer teaches classes in Drugs and Diseases of Connective Tissues, Drugs and Diseases of the Nervous System, and Geriatric Phamacotherapy. Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology
DiGiuseppe is leading a charge to redefine anger so that it might be included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. DiGiuseppe, who recently was elected President of the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy, cites the rise in court-mandated anger-management treatments to support his lobbying efforts. Diane Heith, Ph.D.
Professor Heith is a specialist in American institutions and public opinion, specifically related to elections and the Presidency. She is the author of a book, Polling to Govern: Public Opinion and Presidential Leadership, and the co-editor with Lori Cox Han of a book on President George W. Bush and public opinion entitled, In the Public Domain: Presidents and the Challenge of Public Leadership. Read more >>
Rev. Jean-Pierre Ruiz, S.T.D.
Rev. Ruiz’s research interests are in the areas of Biblical Studies, Hermeneutics and Hispanic/Latino Theology. He has hosted and co-hosted a number of radio and television programs and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hispanic/Latino Theology and Associate Editor of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly. Leonard M. Baynes, J.D.
Baynes recently received $70,000 in grants to expand the summer preparatory program he designed for disadvantaged college students who wish to enter law school. The program is primarily being funded by the New York Community Trust. Read more >>
