St. John's University has announced the appointment of Mary C.
Daly, James H. Quinn Professor of Legal Ethics at Fordham
University School of Law, as the next Dean of the St. John's School
of Law. Professor Daly will assume the Deanship on August 1, 2004,
succeeding Dean Joseph W. Bellacosa.
"We are very excited to have found such a capable person to take
the reins from Judge Bellacosa," said Rev. Donald J. Harrington,
C.M., President of St. John's University. "Professor Daly has
proven herself to be a bright, articulate and compassionate person,
as well as a brilliant scholar. We welcome her and look forward to
her leadership."
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity and challenge," said
Professor Daly. "St. John's School of Law is highly-regarded as an
outstanding law school by lawyers and scholars across the country.
It has flourished under the stewardship of Judge Bellacosa. I am
looking forward to continuing the work begun by him in making St.
John's School of Law the best it can be, for its students, faculty
and alumni."
Professor Daly serves as the Director of their Graduate Program
and the Co-Director of its Louis Stein Center for Law and Ethics.
She has published numerous articles on legal ethics, especially in
the area of corporate and cross-border practice.
Dean Bellacosa added that he and the faculty are delighted with
the appointment of Professor Daly as Dean. "We are all confident
that her role as Dean and Professor will add luster to the great
reputation of our school," he said. "Her leadership and initiatives
will take the School of Law to even greater heights."
