Staten Island, NY - Nicole Petrosino, a St. John’s University
student who earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The
Peter J. Tobin College of Business (Staten Island campus), recently
received a $1,500 scholarship towards her M.B.A. degree from the
American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants (AWSCPA).
A native of Far Rockaway, NY, Ms. Petrosino will complete her
studies at the Tobin College of Business this year, and plans to
graduate in May 2005 with an M.B.A. in Accounting.

“Receiving the AWSCPA scholarship was an immense honor,” said
Ms. Petrosino. “It held great meaning for me and proved to me that
my accomplishments at the Tobin College thus far were worthy of the
time and effort I put into them.”
Ms. Petrosino was selected this year as one of two scholarship
recipients out of more than 40 student applicants from across the
New York City area, by demonstrating her academic excellence and
exceptional leadership abilities. The award was presented at an
event that featured keynote speaker Sarah Smith, the Chief
Accounting Officer of Goldman Sachs.
The AWSCPA is a not-for-profit organization made up of CPAs and
those aspiring to become CPAs. The organization provides a
supportive environment and valuable resources for members to
achieve their personal and professional goals through various
opportunities including leadership, networking and education. The
AWSCPA takes pride in promoting the success of professional women
and believes that a strong education fuels that success. Since its
creation over seven decades ago, the American Woman's Society of
Certified Public Accountants has been the voice of women in the
accounting profession. Many of the members of the AWSCPA have a
connection to The Tobin College of Business. Numerous alumni and
current students are members of the organization, as are faculty
members such as Dr. Irene McCarthy, a professor of Accounting at
the St. John’s University Staten Island campus.
The Tobin College of Business enjoys national acclaim for
