St John’s University and Absolute® Software Partner for New Initiative to Begin School Year

September 15, 2006

Queens, NY -

St John’s University announced today a new partnership with Absolute® Software to utilize its newest product ComputracePlus, a software solution to help manage the return of its loaner laptops.

St. John’s, based in Queens, New York (with branch campuses in Staten Island, Manhattan and Oakdale N.Y. as well as Rome, Italy) is home to more than 20,000 students and gives incoming freshman their own laptops upon acceptance to the university. During the four years of St. John’s laptop program some minor problems have occurred concerning delinquent returns as well as equipment being lost or stolen.

Absolute’s ComputracePlus has features that will benefit St. John’s and its students.

  • Track the location of laptops
  • Protect sensitive or confidential information on the laptops when lost or stolen
  • Help the University and its students locate and recover lost or stolen laptops

“As St. John’s starts its fourth year of issuing Thinkpad® laptops to undergraduates, ComputracePlus will aid in the management of these assets.  This software will help us safeguard the University’s investment in technology.” said Joseph J. Tufano, Chief Information Officer, Information Technology at St. John’s University.

Absolute Software’s ComputracePlus technology enables users to track their computer population on a daily basis – including location, software and hardware title inventories, software compliance and user information – from a single point of control.

“Laptops are an essential learning tool and can offer unlimited rewards in terms of access to information and an ever expanding body of knowledge,” said John Livingston, CEO of Absolute Software. “However, they can also cause unnecessary headaches if they are not properly tracked, secured and inventoried.  I am pleased that Absolute Software was able to assist St John’s University in securing their innovative laptop program and helping them track their valuable IT assets.  We look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with St John’s.”
