St. John's Division of Mass Communication Hosts The Social Communications and Theology Project Conference
September 16, 2008
Queens, N.Y. -
St. John’s University’s Division of Mass Communications will
host the Social Communications and Theology Project (SCTP)
Conference September 16-18 in Bent Hall on the University’s Queens
campus.
The SCTP Conference addresses the importance of associating
theological studies with communication studies, especially on
developing a communicative theology in the context of a popular
culture, popular religion.
The main purpose of this conference is to engage in
interdisciplinary study, which would enrich our understanding of
communication and theology. This conference is intended to nudge
scholars in newer thinking about the evolving subject of
communication and explore its theological dimension, and, at the
same time, to reflect on the discipline of Theology being
challenged by the developments in Communication.
The program for the three days will focus on exchanging ideas
and having interdisciplinary conversations during five conference
sessions: Theological and Philosophical Context for Communication;
Methodology of Communicating Theology; Theology in the Public
Square; Theology Expressed in the Arts and Finding God in the
Virtual World.
