It’s incredible what a caring group of people can do when we put
our heads together.
We are so proud to announce that at our St. John’s University
St. Baldrick’s and Locks of Love
event, on both the Queens and
Staten Island campuses, shaved 72
heads and donated 63 Locks of Love. Yet,
even more exciting is the over $33,800 — and still
counting — that our volunteers raised to find cures for childhood
cancer.
The spirit and energy of the day was electric and, on behalf of
Campus Ministry, we are so grateful for all the students, faculty,
staff, administrators and alumni that supported this amazing
effort.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation grants more for childhood
cancer research than any organization except the U.S. government —
more than $21 million in 2011 alone. Your donations and support
will help find cures for childhood cancers and help give survivors
long and healthy lives.
To see how your donation is being put to work, visit www.StBaldricks.org and take
a look at “where the money goes.” Grants are made in July and
October, and are all listed on the Web site by location and
purpose.
By supporting St. Baldrick’s, you’re a hero to over
160,000 kids worldwide who are diagnosed with
cancer every year.
We will be shaving heads again next year, and it is never too
early (or late!) to get involved, so please feel free to contact
Angela Seegel at seegela@stjohns.edu in Queens
or Melissa Gibilarogibilarom@stjohns.edu in
Staten Island to find out about next year’s event. We will keep
“Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids’ Cancer”… until there is a
cure.
Again, thank you for your donation and
support!
