In 2006, Mr. Sciame was appointed by New York Governor George
Pataki and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to lead the effort
to ensure a buildable World Trade Center Memorial by taking hold of
a budget that was spiraling out of control and working with the
families of the victims and all the other stakeholders to create a
viable project for the entire nation.
Reflecting the Vincentian philosophy of caring and concern for
others, Mr. Sciame has shown his genuine commitment to New York
City and its built environment through his years of civic
responsibility. For his dedication to preserving the City's
treasures, he received the 1997 Chairman's Award from The New York
Landmarks Conservancy and a 2003 “Pillar of New York” award from
the Preservation League of New York State. For his public
service, New York’s Edward Cardinal Egan presented him with the
Cardinal’s Committee for Charity Award and the Diabetes Research
Institute presented him with the Camillo Ricordi Humanitarian
Award. Mr. Sciame currently serves as Chairman for The South
Street Seaport Museum and is the Past-Chairman and a Board Member
