Marjorie Keenan, R.S.H.M., D.U.P.

Marjorie Keenan, R.S.H.M., D.U.P., received her doctorate at the University of Paris (Sorbonne). She served in educational administration, as well as her own religious congregation as Secretary General for a 12-year mandate and as Secretary General of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, USA. She was also a member of the Observer Delegation of the Holy See at the United Nations where she followed disarmament questions. Named a member of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace in 1977, she continued in this capacity until 1986 when she joined the permanent secretariat as a senior staff member until 2001. She concentrates on issues of peace and disarmament and on ecology. Her most recent publications are Care for Creation: Human Activity and the Environment and From Stockholm to Johannesburg: An Historical Overview of the Concern of the Holy See for the Environment 1972-2002.
