Marjorie Keenan, R.S.H.M., D.U.P., received her doctorate at the
University of Paris (Sorbonne). She served in educational
administration, as well as her own religious congregation as
Secretary General for a 12-year mandate and as Secretary General of
the World Conference on Religion and Peace, USA. She was also a
member of the Observer Delegation of the Holy See at the United
Nations where she followed disarmament questions. Named a member of
the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace in 1977, she continued
in this capacity until 1986 when she joined the permanent
secretariat as a senior staff member until 2001. She concentrates
on issues of peace and disarmament and on ecology. Her most recent
publications are Care for Creation: Human Activity and the
Environment and From Stockholm to Johannesburg: An Historical
Overview of the Concern of the Holy See for the Environment
1972-2002.
