Candice Siu, M.A., is a doctoral candidate in Clinical
Psychology at St. John’s University and is the Asian Coalition
Coordinator of PARTNERS Community Collaborative since 2006.
She obtained her BSc in Psychology from University College London
(University of London, UK) and her MA in Clinical Psychology from
Teachers College (Columbia University). Ms. Siu has assisted
in research on patient activity levels on acute psychiatric wards
across 8 different hospitals in London, UK. She has also
worked as a clinical psychology trainee in the in- and out-patients
units of hospitals in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, she assisted
in research on enhancing adherence to treatment for individuals
with schizophrenia through psycho education with patients and their
caretakers. She has also assisted in a multidisciplinary
research initiative to engage Chinese youth in substance and mental
health services. Ms. Siu is a native Cantonese speaker, is
fluent in English and Mandarin, and is conversant in French.
Ms. Siu’s doctoral dissertation is on the effects of meaning-making
in female survivors of sexual assault. As an international
student from Hong Kong, Ms. Siu is also interested in increasing
psychological treatment-seeking behavior in the underserved Chinese
population in Queens.
