The First-Year Writing program oversees the teaching of the
University's core writing course, ENG 1000C, in addition to ENG
0010 and ENG 1030. Beginning in September 2006, fifteen new
full-time writing specialists will teach sections of ENG 1000C,
with new additional faculty being hired in 2007. Within the next
several years a faculty of writing specialists will teach all
sections of the core writing course.
While each section of ENG 1000C reflects the interests and
specialties of each instructor, all participating courses have in
common a shared writing assignment, in which students research and
write about a local neighborhood or a cultural community. Students
will have the opportunity to publish these essays in a student
journal, the first issue of which will appear in late Spring
2007.
