My
name is Danielle Lee and I’m delighted to be
joining St. John’s First Year Writing faculty. I come to First Year
Writing after completing two years of coursework as a student in
the Doctorate of Arts in English program. Prior to starting the
D.A. program, I received my B.A. in Multicultural English at SUNY
College at Old Westbury and an M.A in English here at St. John's.
My desire to help students with their writing comes from my former
position as a Writing Consultant at the Institute for Writing
Studies and working with the Writing Across the Curriculum program.
Along with my pedagogical interests in helping students develop
their writing skills, my research, focuses on the ways in
which African identities are reconstructed through a dialogue with
the diaspora. I have a particular curiosity about the Early
Modern African of the 17th century. I see my research as a
form of historical recovery of the often-misconstrued identity of
the African man and woman.
