Carolyn Vigorito Associate Professor, Dept. of Psychology"Writing to Learn" in PSY 2070C
One new way that I am working with writing in my courses is that I have added a component of "writing to learn" in my Psy 2070C "Child Psychology" course that includes use of the Blackboard discussion board and the Writing Center. Each week or so students respond to a topic question that we have been discussing or reading about in class. They post their response on the Blackboard discussion board and then they must also respond to the posts of at least 2 other students. Twice during the semester students will have to meet with a writing tutor in the Writing Center to select their strongest and weakest posts and to compile these posts into a portfolio. The portfolio will also include a reflective essay where they will self-assess their own writing in conjunction with the writing tutor’s comments.
