Psychological services are provided to children, adolescents,
adults, couples, and families experiencing emotional, behavioral,
or adjustment difficulties. Services include:
- Consultation
In-depth interviews are conducted with clients, who also complete
extensive questionnaires. Consultations determine the
dimensions of the client’s problems, establish a working diagnosis,
and provide recommendations.
- Assessment
Clients are interviewed and evaluated using standard psychological
testing procedures to determine intellectual, academic, and
personality functioning. A feedback session is held to
discuss findings and a formal written report summarizing the
results is available. Findings from psychoeducational
assessments often facilitate the procurement of classroom and
testing accommodations in educational settings.
- Individual Therapy
Clients meet with a therapist, usually on a weekly basis.
Individual therapy is advisable when personal issues affect one’s
ability to cope with the demands of daily living or result in
personal distress. Emphasis is often placed on the
acquisition of practical skills which can alleviate symptoms and
promote better functioning.
- Group Therapy
Clients are seen weekly in a small group. Group
therapy is indicated when clients share common concerns or the
therapeutic process is enhanced in a social context.
Specialized groups focusing on the development of social skills in
children and parenting skills in adults are frequently
offered.
- Family and Marital
Therapy
Couples and families are seen together when relationships within
the marital or family system are the central focus of
treatment.
