Abstract

This research looks at diversity of students, faculty, administrators and staff at St. John’s University in 2001 and 2006.  Gender, ethnic and religious diversity are addressed for each of the four groups.  In addition, family income, geographical origin, retention and graduation rates are analyzed for students. Some perceptions of students relating to diversity are also highlighted, based on results from the following national surveys: National Survey of Student Engagement (2006), Your First College Year (2005) and HERI Faculty Survey (Fall 2004/Spring 2005). This study should enhance awareness of the levels of diversity of each group and of changes over the five year period, in context of the University’s commitment to the value of diversity.
