Abstract
Funded by “No Child Left Behind,” Drs. Guastello and Mistretta present a unique model of a systematic reform via Project TIE: Training Innovative Educators. This school-wide (K-8) professional development initiative, presently taking place in 10 Catholic Elementary Schools in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocese, is already impacting students’ self-concept, attitudes toward learning, and achievement in English Language Arts-particularly writing- and Mathematics. The project includes workshops for parents, teachers, and administrators, teacher focus groups, classroom coaching, and demonstration lessons. Various teaching techniques have been demonstrated to teachers with their students in an effort to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classrooms. Now in its second year, preliminary results are ready to be shared. The special feature of this 3-year project is the element of parent participation. It is our intention to have “No Parent,” as well as “No Child Left Behind.”
