Artist Biography

Alex Morel was born in New York in 1973, and grew up in the Dominican Republic. He studied at St. John’s University completing his BFA in 1997, was part of the fulltime program in General Studies in Photography at ICP during 1994 - 1995, and received his MFA from Rutgers University in 2001. Since then, he has been on assignment for several international organizations such as the Pan American Health Org. (P.A.H.O.-W.H.O.), Org. of American States (OAS), and Accion International, among others. His personal work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 1995, and in 2005 the “Fotomuseum Winterthur” in Switzrland presented the first solo survey of his work. Since 2001, he has taught photography and visual arts at St. John’s University and other educational and cultural institutions in the United States and abroad. He resides in New York.
