Issues Affecting America: Responsible Citizenship Fall 2008

Ahmed Deen Kargbo provides a compelling insider’s view of life and hope in Sierra Leone. Currently President of the United States Sierra Leone Association, in Staten Island, NY, Mr. Kargbo was born and raised in the strife-torn African nation. His father is a retired gold and diamond miner; his mother still lives in Sierra Leone and takes an active role in the issues plaguing the nation.

Mr. Kargbo came to the United States in 1991 with his wife and family, joined the military in 1996; and retired in 2004. He is
now dedicated to telling the full story of Sierra Leone, depicted in the 1996 movie Blood Diamond. This movie explores the tragic actions endured by the people of Sierra Leone. Come learn the rich and wonderful history of Sierra Leone as told by Ahmed Deen Kargbo that the movie does not present.
