There’s no question that David Krebelj ’98SVC had a hectic
senior year at St. John’s University.
“I
was working full-time in a mail room of an investment company in
Manhattan,” he recalled. “And each day, I’d work the 6 a.m. – 3
p.m. shift, get to Queens by 5 p.m., take night classes, then
travel all the way back to Midtown where I was living.”
But over a decade later, Krebelj looks back fondly on those crazy
days and is appreciative of his St. John’s education, especially
since it helped him discover his true passion: videography and
production.
“It may have been a lot of work back then,” he added, “but it was
completely worth it.”
Krebelj is currently the Founder and President of Full Moon
Studios, a production company based in Long Island City, NY that
specializes in long and short-form television content. From promos
to teasers, commercials to live events, Full Moon has worked
closely with networks including A&E, History Channel, Biography
Channel, Crime & Investigation Network and History
Español.
“It’s a blast working with all of these interesting television
channels,” Krebelj said. “I consider myself extremely fortunate
that I can get up every day and work in a field that I truly love,
tackling a diverse range of projects.”
Krebelj has also created his own original content through Full Moon
Studios, most notably the film Colour, Light, Movement, Sound!, a
self-financed documentary about Full Scale, an Australian
alternative metal band. The project was a true labor of love for
Krebelj, taking nearly five years to complete.
“My wife is originally from Australia,” he explained, “and
she’s the person who first introduced me to the band. Once we
decided to film the documentary, we would record a little bit each
time I’d be in Australia. When we finally finished it, we had this
huge release party in Melbourne with a ton of different bands
performing. It was just an incredibly fun project.”
Between his professional and personal projects, Krebelj has grown
tremendously as a producer, and he recently used his talents to
assist his alma mater during the 15th Annual St. John’s University
President’s Dinner. Working in conjunction with A&E Networks,
Krebelj produced biography videos of the event’s distinguished
honorees.
“It was a lot of fun to be back on campus to work on those videos,”
Krebelj noted. “For me, I hadn’t been back in a while, so it was
neat to check out the dorms, explore the D’Angelo Center and see
their revamped TV facilities. I’m amazed to see how far we’ve come
in the last 15 years or so.”
Full Moon Studios recently established a new partnership with
Lifetime Networks – one of many reasons why the company’s future is
looking incredibly bright. And, best of all, Krebelj hasn’t
forgotten his roots, frequently talking about to friends and
colleagues about how much he enjoyed his St. John’s
education.
“It wasn’t just the technical stuff that I learned there,” Krebelj
explained. “St. John’s teaches you the business side of television,
the writing that goes into it. Those have been incredibly useful
skills that helped me create Full Moon.”
Ultimately, his favorite subject while at St. John’s was
Philosophy, courses that he believes helped him evolve as a person
as much as a professional.
“When you’re in business, it’s all about your moral compass and how
you interact with other people,” he said. “You need those
perspectives on life if you want to be successful, and that’s
precisely what St. John’s helps to instill in you.”
