Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s
announced today that James P. Pellow, Ed.D. will be leaving the
University to accept a new position as President and CEO of the Council on International Educational
Exchange (CIEE), effective on June 1, 2011. The Board of
Directors of CIEE simultaneously announced the selection of Dr.
Pellow today to succeed Dr. Stevan K. Trooboff upon his retirement.
He will become the fourth CEO and President of CIEE in its more
than 63-year history.
Dr. Pellow joins CIEE after almost 20 years at St. John's
University in Queens, New York. He has most recently served as
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, serving as
second-in-command as a vital senior leader at the University since
2000.

know that our entire University community joins with me in
expressing deep appreciation to Jim for all that he has been – and
done for us – at St. John’s,” said Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M.,
President of St. John’s University. “Our University is stronger and
better because of his countless contributions to it. We wish Jim
many years of continued success in his new position.”
Serving in a variety of senior administrative capacities while at
St John's, Dr. Pellow was instrumental in the development and
execution of the University's Strategic Plan. His strategic,
financial, and operational leadership has led to widespread success
in fulfilling the mission and achieving institutional goals. His
responsibilities include oversight of all of the institution’s
administrative functions, including Strategic Planning, Enrollment
Management, Business Affairs & Treasury, Facilities &
Construction, Marketing & Communications, Student Affairs,
General Counsel, Human Resources, Information Technology, Public
Safety, Athletics, and International Programs.

Pellow.
And, as Dr. Pellow transitions to his new role at CIEE, he sees
similarities in his current and future job descriptions which will
allow him to continue to mold future leaders both nationally and
internationally.

educational and student exchange in and out of the United States,
working in more than 50 countries, and serving about 40,000
participants across a wide array of programming. CIEE offers a
wonderful management opportunity to join a successful team and

true legacy of quality and accomplishment,” added Dr. Pellow.
In making the announcement Robert Fallon, Chair of the CIEE Board
of Directors, said, "We are delighted to welcome Jim Pellow to

leadership of Steve Trooboff for the past 17 years. Steve has
elevated CIEE to new levels of excellence and positioned our
organization for continued growth and relevance in an increasingly
globalized world. Jim's proven leadership and experience in the
field of higher education, as well as his considerable business
acumen, will ensure that the momentum created under Steve Trooboff
continues well into the future."
Dr. Pellow received his Ed.D. from the Graduate School of
Education at the University of Pennsylvania and his BBA and MBA
from Niagara University. He, his wife Karyn and their family (two
sons in college and a daughter in high school), will be relocating
to Portland, Maine, the headquarters of CIEE, in 2011. He will
transition from his position at St. John's over the coming months
and will start at CIEE in June.
