Profile

Regina Mistretta, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in The School of Education, holds a B.S., M.S., and Ed.D. in mathematics education.  She strives to help forward the field through teaching, research, and service efforts that address the needs of students, teachers, administrators, and parents.  Her research includes investigations of geometric conceptual understandings, pedagogical practices in elementary and middle school settings, student error patterns, teacher preparation and professional development programs, and parental perspectives concerning mathematical learning.  As a university professor, she seeks to blend her research findings with both current theory and practice on and off campus.

She designs, facilitates, and investigates the impact of professional development models, teacher preparation initiatives, and parental engagement projects on pre-service and in-service teachers, student achievement, and parental perspectives. Funding for such programs and related research has come from federal and private funding sources. To date, she has interacted with over 25 Pre-K to 8 learning communities encompassing teachers, administrators, and multi-cultural school children and their parents in moderate to low-socioeconomic areas of all five boroughs of the metropolitan area.
