Being admitted to the program and meeting the second or third
set of requirements can lead to School
Building Leader Certification. If an administrator or teacher
does not have New York State certification, then they will be eligible for the Master's Program,
but are not eligible for New York
State School Building Leader Certification.
Completing Your Certification
There are 12 elective graduate-level credits that may assist
you in fulfilling certain requirements for your certification. Once
the requirements for NYS Permanent Teaching Certification are met,
you can apply to NYS for School Building Leader
certification (certification as a principal, assistant principal,
etc.). Our administration, faculty and staff will be able to
assist you with any questions you may have in this area.
The State will be implementing a content exam in Administration
and which must be passed in order to receive
certification. There will also be a New York State
Certification Exam implemented. Each student seeking SBL
certification must take and pass this exam. Like all NYS
certification tests, there is a NYS fee for this
exam.
Note
The courses you take toward fulfilling the requirements of the
Master's Degree are funded by the DOE. Regular St.
John's University students pay approximately $730 a credit as
well as a $125 fee each semester - both expenses are covered
by the DOE. There is a one time $40 application fee to St.
John's University, and you will be responsible for purchasing
books.
