Anthony Ametrano
Associate, Cullen and Dykman, LLP
Awarded the 2011 Recent Graduate Service Award by St. John’s Law
School
“I couldn’t have imagined going to Law School anywhere
else.”
As an undergraduate student at St. John’s University, Anthony
Ametrano ’02L recognized that a committed and engaged alumni base
would make a significant impact, not only on the University, but
also on individual students. Such was Mr. Ametrano’s
experience at St. John’s University. Therefore, when it came
time to apply to Law School, Mr. Ametrano knew that the only Law
School that he wanted to attend was St. John’s Law.
During Law School, Mr. Ametrano served as the Co-President of
the Intellectual Property Law Society under the direction of the
late Professor Joseph Beard. However, it was during a law
internship with the Queen’s County District Attorney's office that
he was drawn toward a litigation practice. Mr. Ametrano
shared that while attending St. John’s Law, “I experienced an
exceptional portfolio of legal faculty, however, I truly connected
with Professor Robert E. Parella who I had for Property I and II as
well as for Trusts and Estates. I was so happy, and honored,
to share the podium with him at the recent Alumni Luncheon.”
Post graduation from St. John’s Law, Mr. Ametrano served as a
trial attorney for the Government Employees Insurance Company
(GEICO). Later, an opportunity arose to join Cullen and
Dykman, LLP as an associate in the firm’s Litigation
Department. Noting that Cullen and Dykman, LLP has over
thirty attorneys that hail from St. John’s Law, Mr. Ametrano knew
that he was making the right career move when he tendered his
resignation at GEICO.
Mr. Ametrano is actively involved in the St. John’s University
School of Law’s Alumni Association serving as Co-Chair of the Young
Alumni Chapter (for Alumni who graduated from 2002 – 2010) while
serving on the St. John's University School of Law Alumni
Association's Board of Directors. It is common practice for
Mr. Ametrano to mobilize young alumni for networking nights,
mentoring, CLE efforts and the financial support of alma
mater. In addition, Mr. Ametrano serves as a Liaison between
his Firm and St. John’s Law School to facilitate and foster a
strong bond between the two institutions.
As we draw closer to Law School Graduation Mr. Ametrano shares
this thought with pending graduates, “we all know that it is a
tight market. Have confidence in yourself and your fellow
alums to open doors for you because we know that you have the
skill-set to succeed.”
