Jeremy Weintraub comes to St. John’s to teach in our Legal
Writing Program. Last year, he was a Visiting Lawyering Process
Professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Before
that, he taught Legal Reasoning, Writing & Research and Written
& Oral Advocacy at New York Law School.
After graduating from New York University School of Law, where
he earned first place honors in the Trial Lawyers’ Association Oral
Advocacy Tournament, Professor Weintraub worked in private practice
in New York, first at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and later as
Counsel to Schoeman, Updike & Kaufman, LLP.As a litigator, he
handled matters involving breach of contract, corporate
dissolution, fraud, insurance coverage, the securities laws,
tortious interference, and professional malpractice. His trial and
appellate work included a 13-week federal proceeding in New York
that resulted in a large judgment in favor of his banking industry
clients and a successful appeal to the Second Circuit barring a
retrial of a corporate executive on double jeopardy
grounds.
Professor Weintraub has also practiced in the field of
alternative dispute resolution. He has served as a mediator for the
Commercial Division of New York State Supreme Court, volunteered as
an arbitrator in New York City Civil Court, and represented clients
in FINRA and AAA arbitrations.
