Julie E. Steiner joined the law faculty in
2005. Professor Steiner’s scholarship focuses on environmental
enforcement theory, energy law and environmental policy
reform.
Her article, “The Illegality of Contingency-Fee Arrangements
When Prosecuting Public Natural Resource Damage Claims and the Need
for Legislative Reform,” published in the William and Mary
Environmental Law and Policy Review, republished in the November
2008 Environmental Law Reporter, and, most recently, in the ABA
Energy Litigation Journal. Her article, “Private
Enforcement of Contamination and Climate Change Liability Suits,”
is forthcoming in the ABA Energy Litigation
Journal.
Professor Steiner practiced environmental law at Dewey
Ballantine LLP (currently Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLP), and at K&L
Gates, LLP. She serves on the Editorial Board for the
American Bar Association Energy Litigation Committee. The Committee
reports on regulatory and litigation developments affecting the
oil, natural gas, electricity and alternative energy
industries. She also serves on the New York State Bar
Association Climate Change Committee.
She graduated from Boston University School of Law, where she
was ranked second in her third-year class, was an Edward F.
Hennessey Distinguished Scholar and a Paul J. Liacos Scholar.
She was a Visiting Student of International and Comparative Law at
Oxford University, St. Catherine’s College.
Professor Steiner teaches Environmental Law; Torts; and Legal
Analysis, Research and Writing as Associate Professor of Legal
Writing. She received the Dean’s Teaching Award in 2008-2009
for Torts.
