Professor Stabile has been a member of the St. John's faculty
since 1993. From 1998-2001, she served as Academic Dean of the Law
School. Prior to joining the faculty, she was associated in New
York and Hong Kong with the international law firm of Cleary,
Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton, where she spent her early years
practicing corporate and securities law and later specialized in
employee benefits and executive compensation matters.
Professor Stabile is one of the nation's leading scholars in the
area of pensions and employee benefits. She is the co-author
of both the leading pension and employee benefits casebook as well
as a major treatise on ERISA Litigation. She has also
authored numerous articles in the area. More recently, her
work has explored the intersection of Catholicism and the law,
applying the insights of Catholic Social Thought to areas such as
corporate governance and employee benefits.
Professor Stabile is a Fellow of the Vincentian Center for
Church and Societ and a member of the Executive Committee of the
the Conference on Catholic Legal Thought. She is also a member of
the editorial board of the Employee Rights and Employment Policy
Journal. From 2003-2005, she served as a member of
the Advisory Board of the John Marshall Law School LL.M. Program in
Employee Benefits and she is a past Chair of the AALS Section on
Employee Benefits and of the Labor and Employment Law Section of
the Labor and Employment Relations Association (formerly the
Industrial Relations Research Association). In 1997, she was
presented with the NYU School of Law Legal Teaching Award and in
2004, she was the recipient of a St. John's University Faculty
Outstanding Achievement Medal.
Professor Stabile currently teaches Pensions and Employee
Benefits, Administrative Law, Catholic Social Thought and the
Law and Introduction to Law. She has also taught
Employment Law and Business Organizations and has taught Employee
Benefits Law as a member of the adjunct faculty of the New York
University School of Law.
Professor Stabile is a contributing author to Mirror of Justice, a blog
dedicated to the development of Catholic Legal Theory. She is
also a spritual director and a member of the adjunct ministerial
staff at St. Ignatius
Retreat House, in Manhasset, New York.
