Based on a speech given at the Red Mass Banquet of the Diocese
of
Galveston-Houston, the author, a judge of the Ninth Circuit Court
of Appeals, addresses the issue of whether one can be a good
Catholic and a good
lawyer at the same time. He suggests St. Ives, the patron
saint of lawyers,
and St. Thomas More, as models to which the modern attorney can
aspire.
