Tragedy at Virginia Tech - Day of Mourning

April 20, 2007

The tragedy that occurred on the Virginia Tech campus earlier this week has affected all of us at St. John’s University. We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families and the entire community at Virginia Tech.

Special prayer services on both the Queens and Staten Island campuses brought hundreds of St. John’s students and employees together to pray for all of those who have suffered. We know that, for some members of our community who had friends or relatives attending Virginia Tech, those prayers were particularly personal.

Today the State of Virginia has declared a day of mourning. Church bells will toll at noon and there will be a minute of silence. St. John’s will join in this commemoration by tolling the bells at St. Thomas More Church. We ask that all members of our University community join in the tribute.
