Louis Graziano
Senior Trial Attorney, United States Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission
J.D., ‘85
Louis Graziano finds gratification every
day in the work he does with New York’s underserved
communities
As someone who grew up during the civil rights movement of the
1950s and 60s, Louis Graziano finds personal satisfaction in the
work he does with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The importance of service to underserved communities is a solid
reflection of the longstanding mission of the School of Law.
“Congress established this agency as part of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964. As a trail attorney I enforce the major
anti-discrimination laws through lawsuits against employers who
violate those laws. This is an area of law in which there is a
strong sense of social satisfaction in my work.”
For more than 80 years the School of Law’s founding mission has
been to serve the greater good of the surrounding community. That
dedication to service played a major role in the preparation Louis
says he received. But it wasn’t the only preparation.
“St. John’s prepared me for this work with a balance of legal
knowledge and the outlets to apply that knowledge in practical
settings. Legal knowledge without practical application is not very
useful. The School of Law is very focused on balancing both to
provide their students with the knowledge and skills necessary for
success.”
Louis was drawn to the School of Law by its reputation, by its
convenience, and by a faculty of excellent professors.
“St. John’s was one of the few law schools that offered a night
school so that I could continue to work while going to school. As
an investigator, I came into contact with several St. John’s law
graduates who encouraged me to apply. And there are many fine
professors who, through wit and wisdom, give their students the
best legal grounding one could hope for.”
