Niagara University announced today that its
26th president will be the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M.,
D.Min., currently executive vice president for mission and student
services at St. John’s University.
Father Maher will
succeed the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., who announced in January
that he would be resigning from his position at the Catholic and
Vincentian institution at the conclusion of the current academic
year.
During Father
Maher’s tenure at St. John’s, he has served as campus minister to
the athletic department, vice president of university ministry,
vice president of student affairs, executive director of the
Vincentian Institute for Social Action, and as a board member for
the St. John’s Bread & Life
Program.
“Father Maher has
been an engaged and influential part of the St. John’s community
for almost 23 years, most recently in his role as Executive Vice
President for Mission and Student Service” said Rev. Donald J.
Harrington, C.M.” Our university is stronger and better for all
that he has been and done, and for that we are very grateful. While
his departure is a great loss for us, I know that his many talents
will enable him to serve Niagara capably and effectively.”
