Professional Skills Area

The professional skills area (12 credits) is divided into two parts: nine credits of course work and a three-credit practicum. The aim of these 800-level courses is to develop the effectiveness of teachers of history, social studies, or social sciences by stressing both new approaches to instruction and recent developments in the field. The practicum is devoted to the discussion and working out of problems confronted by the teacher in the classroom and is designed to encourage the employed professional to consider alternative instructional means and to evaluate the effectiveness of current teaching techniques.
