Applicants to the Masters of Arts (MA) in Speech-Language
Pathology program must:
- Have an undergraduate GPA in the major of at least 3.0
- Submit three (3) letters of recommendation
- Submit a 300-word written statement of career goals
- Submit GRE scores
- Have the following undergraduate pre-requisite coursework in
Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology:
- CSD 1710- Phonetics
- CSD 1720- Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech System
- CSD 1730- Language Acquisition
- CSD 1740- Introduction to Hearing Science
- CSD 2750- Introduction to Audiology
- CSD 2760- Speech-Language Pathology I: Language
Disorders
- CSD 2770- Speech-Language Pathology II: Speech Disorders

Bulletin (St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences,
Speech-Language Pathology major).
You may complete these pre-requisites here at St. John’s or
elsewhere. To take them at St John’s, you need to make an
appointment with the Chair of the Department of Communication
Sciences and Disorders, and bring official transcripts of your
earlier coursework.
You should have completed the pre-requisites (21 credits) above
before matriculating, although you may apply while you are still
enrolled in some of them.
In addition, you need to have:
- 3 credits in Mathematics
- 3 credits in Biological Sciences
- 3 credits in Physical Sciences (e.g., Physics, Chemistry,
Geology, Earth Sciences, and similar)
- 6 credits in Social and Behavioral Sciences (e.g., Psychology,
Anthropology, Sociology)
15 credits
Some of the latter 15 credits may be completed after a student
has been admitted in our graduate program although it is not
recommended.
