Global health explores how globalization affects health
determinants, the health status of a population and the capacity of
nation states to deal with the determinants of health and disease.
This concentration explores how developing countries address public
health issues within their own territories. The coursework also
introduces practical solutions to health problems of underserved
and neglected populations lacking adequate access to care. Students
graduating in this area of concentration will be prepared to work
in agencies and organizations in both the private and public
sectors, which focus on global health issues and solutions. Diverse
career settings may include disaster relief organizations,
immigrant/refugee health organizations, research or academic
institutions, and international or governmental agencies.
Graduates will be prepared to work as in-field consultants,
researchers, program managers, program assistants, or
administrators. For more information on prospective careers
following graduation, visit the What is Public
Health? website.
