Queens, NY - St. John’s University’s 9th Annual Walk for the
Homeless, a pilgrimage to raise awareness and funds for local area
shelters dealing directly with the homeless population, will take
place on Good Friday, March 25, 2005, beginning at 9 a.m. at St.
John’s University, 8000 Utopia Parkway, Queens, NY.
The Walk is sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Society and St.
John’s Campus Ministry Department. Last year, more than 300
participants in the walk raised more than $25,000 in donations for
local organizations serving the homeless population. This year’s
goal stands at $30,000.
The Walk for the Homeless begins with registration in St. Thomas
More Church followed by a prayer service. Walkers will then follow
a route up Union Turnpike to Bayside, returning down 73rd Avenue to
Utopia Parkway, ending at the campus for a light lunch. In the
event of inclement weather, the walk will be held indoors.
The event is open to the public. To participate in the walk,
