On Saturday, November 3, 2012, two teams of students from
Tobin’s Department of Accounting and Taxation participated in the
regional phase of Deloitte’s annual “FanTAXtic Competition.”
The national, tax case-study competition, sponsored by Deloitte Tax
LLP and the Deloitte Foundation, is designed for future tax
professionals to gain exposure early in their academic
careers.
The event gives participants a first-hand understanding of the
consultative aspects tax, experience application of tax codes and
regulations, opportunities to network with tax professionals, as
well as a chance to compete in the national event at Deloitte
University.
Faculty advisors Professor Biagio Pilato and Dr. Patrick R.
Colabella counseled team members in preparation of the competition.
Members of Team A included: Samantha Tusa, Graduate Student;
Guiseppe Ferraro ’14; Daniel O’Leary ’14; Maria Theresa Quaranta
’15 and Chengxi Wang ’15.
Members of Team B included: Taryn Layton, Graduate Student; Philip
Luca ’14; Carla-Simina Marian ’14; Jennifer Capozzoli ’15; Michael
Malfi ’15and alternate student Jesse Schacher ’15
This year’s regional event featured 74 student teams from 51
schools competing in 16 Deloitte offices across the country. The
winners in each region will advance to Deloitte’s National
FaxTAXtic competition to vie for over $50,000 in individual
scholarships and Awards.
