St. John’s Professor Llano Conducts Debate Seminar at Howard University

February 27, 2009

Over the February 21-22 weekend, Assistant Professor and Director of Debate Steve Llano conducted a debate seminar and workshop at Howard University in Washington, DC. Professor Llano was invited to Howard to help students in The Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Society improve their argumentation and debate skills in preparation for an upcoming public debate with Yale University.

Topics covered were argument construction, refutation and rebuttal, research and developing strong speech skills.

The St. John’s University Debate Society is no stranger to such outreach projects, having assisted in the development of The King’s College Debate Society and currently assisting Adelphi University and Queens College with debate education.

The Debate Society is one of the few academic programs open to students from any of St. Johns’ campuses. For more information on participating, contact Prof. Llano at llanos@stjohns.edu or 718-990-5606
