One of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United
States is the sports business. The Street & Smith’s Sports
Business Journal annual survey estimated the sports business
at $213 billion. It is far more than twice the size of the U.S.
auto industry and seven times the size of the movie industry.
International sports business is among the industry’s fastest
growing fields.
The MPS in Sport Management at St. John's is a natural
development of its long standing and successful undergraduate
program—the largest (non-physical education) sport management
program in the country. A unique feature of the
undergraduate program has been its international dimension,
which offered a semester of study and internships at the University
of Leicester (U.K.).
Building on that foundation, St. John’s will now offer the MPS
degree in Sport Management. The
program is designed with two specializations, one in
coaching leadership and one in the
international dimensions of sport. Students take 21 credits in
a common core and 18 credits in the specialization.
