Mission Statement
The Student Managed Investment Funds
(“the Investment Fund”) shall be established to provide students of
the Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB) at St. John’s
University (SJU) with practical investment management
experience. The principal and the investment returns will be
invested and reinvested. A portion of the investment returns
could be used to support other educational activities at the
TCB.
Executive Summary
Investment management is an important
segment of the global financial markets. The industry has
experienced tremendous growth in recent years. The Student
Investment Fund provides the opportunity for TCB to join other
elite schools such as New York University and Ohio State University
that offer students real money management experience. Such
real-world investing will result in students being better prepared
for careers in financial services. It will greatly enhance the
finance curriculum and improve our external image as a leader in
finance education.
The prerequisite for
this special Asset Management course is Corporate
Finance. Select students will be given the opportunity to
participate in the management of the portfolio, subject to the
investment policies and guidelines of the Investment Fund, approval
of investment recommendations by the Investment Fund’s Investment
Committee, and oversight by the Supervisory Board.

bonds, and foreign controlled securities such as American
depositary receipts.

All students will be
expected to be active participants in the overall investment
management process, to contribute to the various administrative
