Dr. Kiran Mirza Ismail is an Assistant Professor of Management
in the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s
University.
She obtained her Ph.D. in Management, with a concentration in
Organizational Behavior and a minor in International Management,
from the University of Texas at Dallas. Her research interests are
in the areas of inter- and intra-organizational social networks,
organization behavior and human resource management issues
associated with intra- organizational relationships, including the
leader-subordinate relationships, and business, leadership and
management concerns in transitional economies.
Dr. Ismail’s research, based on her doctoral dissertation on
leadership, business, and management concerns in transitional
economies of the Central Eurasian Post Soviet region, has received
international recognition. “Discerning Leadership Perceptions of
Central Eurasian Leaders: An Exploratory Analysis,” co-authored
with Dr. David L. Ford, Jr. of the University of Texas at Dallas,
won the John Yanouzas Outstanding Paper Award at the Twelfth
Eastern Academy of Management International Conference in June 2007
in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Another paper, “Networking as
Organizational Response to Institutional Upheaval: Evidence from
Central Eurasia,” also co-authored with Dr. David L. Ford, Jr.,
appeared in the 2007 Academy of Management Best Papers
Proceedings.
Dr. Ismail has published articles in various refereed journals,
including Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science,
Journal of International Management, International Journal of Human
Resource Management, Journal of Asia Business Studies, Organization
Management Journal, and Journal of Business Research. She has also
presented several papers in various refereed regional, national and
international conferences, including the Academy of Management
Annual Meetings, the Academy of International Business Annual
Meetings, the Western Academy of Management Annual Conference,
Southern Management Association Annual Conference, the Eastern
Academy of Management International Conference, and INFORMS Annual
Meetings.
She is an active member of the Academy of Management, Southern
Management Association, and the Institute for Operations Research
and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and serves as an ad hoc
reviewer for various academic journals and professional
meetings.
