On October 26, 2010, student managers from the fall 2010
GLOBE course organized their annual viral marketing event, “Treat
for Change,” in order to raise funds and awareness about the Global
Microloan Program, a student-managed academic program offered
through the Peter J. Tobin College of Business.

The students, accompanied by members of GLOBE G.A.P. (Graduate
Affiliate Program), wore capes decorated with the slogan “The Real
Superheroes…Our Borrowers” and photos of entrepreneurs assisted
through the program as they walked around campus informing the St.
John’s community about the program and offering candy treats in
exchange for pocket change.
“We were thrilled to see the positive response from the St
John’s community. The change collected through the event will
provide loans to borrowers living in poverty halfway around the
world!” noted Dr. Linda Sama, associate dean and professor of
management.
Johnny Thunderbird, the St. John’s mascot, also wore a cape and
assisted the student managers with raising money during GLOBE’s
simultaneous bake sale.
