April 2008--Dr. Nina Dorata, a certified public accountant in New
York and an Assistant Professor of Accounting at The Tobin College
of Business, was recently presented with The John W. Dobbins

John W. Dobbins, Professor and former Chair of the Marketing
Department.
To be considered for such an award, a professor must be a
faculty member of St. John's University who is nominated by a
student that was a part of his or her class. An application process
including an essay stating why the professor should be honored with
this award, are submitted by the student and then reviewed by the
Academic Affairs Committee. The Academic Affairs Committee of
Student Government, Incorporated is a 20-member committee composed
of students from the five different colleges of the University and
was co-chaired this year by Elsen Jacob and Susan C. Jacob.
“I was truly humbled to be honored by the accounting majors of
Tobin and I applaud student government for their efforts and
service to our students,” says Dr. Dorata. “I will continue to live
up to this wonderful tribute.”
Dr. Dorata’s professional experience includes working as an
auditor for Price Waterhouse & Co. where she serviced clients
in the financial services and manufacturing industries. She
was an Assistant Vice President of Corporate Accounting for E.F.
Hutton & Co. Inc., and a Director of Financial Reporting at
Staff Builders Inc. Dr. Dorata volunteers as an audit
committee member for the Northport-East Northport School District
and as a consultant for not-for-profit entities.
Members of Student Government presented Dr. Dorata with this
award at The Annual End-of-Year Ceremony of Student Government,
Inc., which took place on April 16th. Deans, Administrators,
University President Father Harrington, and the Provost, Dr. Julia
Upton, were also in attendance.
