Tobin's Financial Services Symposium Entitled "Financial Services-Reexamining Risk"

September 2008—On Friday, September 12, The Financial Services
Institute (FSI) sponsored its annual symposium. This year’s theme
was Financial Services: Reexamining Risk, and the event opened with
a plenary panel discussion focusing on the topic: After the
Deluge: What Next for Financial Services? Panelists included
Thomas F. Scaturro, National Sales Director of Wachovia Wealth
Management, and Robert Krener, President of Taylor Warner Realty,
in addition to the Founder of the Financial Services Institute,
Donald Pitti and its Director, Dr. Igor Tomic.
FSI Founder, Donald Pitti, was recently announced the 2008
winner of the Kemp Fain Jr. Award. This award recognizes an
individual member who has made outstanding contributions to the
financial planning profession in the areas of service to
professional activities, society, academia and/or government and
upholds FPA’s core values of competence, integrity, relationships
and stewardship.
Sessions of this year’s symposium focused on current financial
issues including risk, volatility, and regulation. Numerous papers
were discussed at the symposium including: Cost of Capital and
Cash Flow Effects Following ADR Listings, by Cynthia J.
Campbell of Iowa State University, George J. Papaioannou and Anoop
Rai of Hofstra University, The Impact of the Removal of the
Short Sale Restriction on Return Volatility authored by Vipul
Bansal, Anna Martin, and Takeshi Nishakawa of St. John’s
University, and Pricing Multi-Barrier Reverse Convertibles
by Thomas Lindauer and Ralf Seiz of The University of St. Gallen,
Switzerland.
