7 Myths and Facts

Myth #1: I will be required to pay more tuition if I enroll in Discover the World.
No! Not only is tuition the same, but the Office of Financial Aid has reserved exclusive funds especially to assist students who take part in this unprecedented study abroad opportunity. Contact the Office of Study Abroad for details.

Myth #2: I will have to postpone my graduation date for one more semester if I participate in Discover the World.
Not at all. Discover the World offers a range of courses, both within the program – as listed in the brochure – and even online. (See your Academic Advisor for options). Enrolled students do not have to postpone their graduation date. Meet with your Academic Advisor to develop the best class schedule while discovering the World.

Myth #3: If I enroll in the program I will forfeit student leadership opportunities, honors and residence hall placement.
Absolutely not. If you serve a student leadership role – such as Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, etc. – you will retain your position after completing the program. Resident Students are guaranteed their housing placement. Students wishing to apply for leadership roles and honors, i.e. President’s Society, will be given the same consideration as if they were on campus for the semester.

Myth #4: I cannot invite Non-St. John’s students to enroll in Discover the World.
Not true. Matriculated undergraduates at other colleges and universities are welcome to enroll. In fact, St. John’s students will receive a 50% rebate on their airline ticket if they recruit a non-St. John’s student who enrolls in the program

Myth #5: I will be required to stay outside the three cities and share a room with more than one other person in a facility similar to a traditional residence hall.
No. Students will enjoy double room hotel occupancy in Paris and Salamanca with daily cleaning and change of linens. In Rome they will live in apartments with a fully equipped kitchen, daily cleaning and weekly change of linen.
