The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is of
paramount concern to St. John’s. In order to ensure a safe
and enjoyable experience abroad, we take a number of precautions,
including:
- Closely monitoring the security of each location prior to and
throughout each program. In conjunction with our Office of
Public Safety, we carefully vet each location based on Department
of State and other governmental sources of information, news
reports, private security data, and study abroad best
practices.
- Providing all program participants with emergency assistance
and evacuation insurance to ensure that we’re best able to respond
to any kind of emergency, anywhere in the world. In cooperation
with our on-site staff, our insurer can provide 24/7 emergency
assistance across the globe, from needing a doctor for a minor
illness to managing medical hospitalization and evacuation.
- Registering all students with the Department of State to allow
for better coordination in the event of an emergency.
- Ensuring strong student support through on-site staff that
works in tandem with the resources of St. John’s University to
assist students with any issues they may have. This is
perhaps the most important item. We’re here for students and
families—both in New York and abroad—24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
