You've worked hard to make the most of your years at St. John's, and now we want to give you the chance to make the most of your last semester if you are an undergraduate--or provide you with a unique elective as a graduate student. The Dean of The School of Education, Dr. Jerrold Ross, is excited to introduce the Dean’s International Fellowship program. This new program gives our highest-achieving seniors and selected graduate students the opportunity to celebrate their School of Education experience with a week-long trip to Paris, France.
Based around a hybrid distance-learning/study abroad course, EDU 9285 "Contemporary Issues in Comparative Education," the program begins in Paris, where you will visit many of the city's great historical and cultural landmarks while studying the differences in the ways schools are run in two of the world’s leading urban centers (Paris and New York). The course will continue through the spring 2013 semester as a Online Learning class. The course will either act as a capstone to your undergraduate studies or as an exceptional elective. Either option will encourage you to reflect on your educational career and provide you with a basic understanding of administrative issues, studied through the lens of Vincentian values and practice. Aside from the knowledge you will glean, the best part is, students selected to participate will only be required to pay a $250 deposit and for their airfare to and from Paris – nearly all other expenses are paid!
Eligibility Requirements: Undergraduate students must be slated for May 2013 graduation with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Graduate students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The program is open to all majors in The School of Education, with the permission of your advisor or dean.
Travel Dates: January 7 - January 14, 2013
(Please note: students will arrive in Paris on January 7 and depart from Paris on January 14. For most flights departing from New York, you must leave the day before the arrival date.)

Essay Component: In 250 words, tell the dean what you hope to gain from your study abroad experience. Address the reasons why you believe you should be selected for this seminar, including what you hope to bring back to the St. John's community upon your return.
Costs: Students are responsible for a $250 non-refundable deposit/program fee, tuition and the cost of airfare, plus any incidental costs (souvenirs, some meals, etc.).
*Tuition and airfare are in addition to the deposit/program fee. For undergraduate students, this course will be included in their normal semester tuition bill as long as they meet full-time student status (12 to 18 credits). Graduate students will be billed separately for tuition and fees based on the prevailing cost of tuition for their designated college. Accommodations: St. John's Paris Campus
Meals Included: 7 breakfasts, 4 main meals (lunches or dinners depending on the schedule), plus welcome and farewell dinners. Please note that other meals will be eaten independently, so be sure to budget accordingly.
