Below please find some resources which might be helpful in thinking about assessment and making plans to do assessment at a variety of different levels.

General

• For a start, here is a list of Nine Principles of Good Practice for Assessing Student Learning.

• The Association of American Colleges and University's has a good website with links to a host of solid assessment resources.
  
  
• Jon Mueller has a great site called the Authentic Assessment Toolbox with information on a host of assessment types.
  
  
• Noel Entwistle has a good article on the relationship between assessment and deep versus superficial learning.
  
  
• In "Moving from Paperwork to Pedagogy," Peggy Maki argues that assessment should come naturally to faculty who are naturally inquisitive.
  
  
• "Get more "teaching" out of "testing" and "grading" is an article that asks the question "What do I want students to be able to do with the knowledge acquired in this class?" and gives many examples of how assessment can be one of your "greatest teaching tools.
  
  
• An enjoyable discussion of "information literacy" asks "Why do so many professors rebuff academic librarians who offer to teach a class session on research skills?"

Assessment of Majors

• A step-by-step guide, this source emphasizes the importance of limiting the number of outcomes to be measured at one time and describes many examples of assessment measures.
