Award
The total value of award varies, but includes: university fees,
cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research
and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States, and,
where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent
spouse.
Application Deadline
Students must be nominated by the GAAP office
andĀ applicationsĀ are due on September 18, 2013.
Qualifications
The applicant must be a US citizen with a minimum GPA of 3.7; hold
your first degree from an accredited four-year college or
university in the US (by the time the scholarship begins);
graduated with an undergraduate degree no later than three Aprils
earlier.
A Marshall Scholarship will not be awarded to a person already
studying for, or holding, a British degree or degree-equivalent
qualification.
Application Process
The applicant must submit the following items in addition to
application form:
- Letter of endorsement from university by President or Academic
Dean
- Outline of proposed study in UK (500 words)
- Personal essay (1,000 words)
- Four letters of recommendation (two of which must be
academic),
- College transcripts.
History
The British Marshall Scholarships were instituted by the British
Parliament on July 31, 1953 as a practical and enduring gesture of
thanks on behalf of the British people for assistance received from
the US in the aftermath of World War II. The scholarships are
funded by the Diplomatic Wing of the British Foreign and
Commonwealth Office and allow US students to study in the UK.
