St. John’s University Celebrates 3rd Annual University Service Day

"What a Difference A Day Makes" will focus on serving the needy of the New York area
 
Queens, NY - St John's University will celebrate its 3rd annual University Service Day on Saturday, September 25, 2004 with a series of volunteer community service events in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island. 
 
"We celebrate and honor the life and works of St. Vincent DePaul by practicing the University core value of service," said MaryAnn Dantuono, Associate Director of the Vincentian Center for Church and Society. "More than 500 students, faculty, administrators and alumni will plant gardens, clean homes, paint classrooms, visit sick children, and bring sandwiches to the hungry and homeless. Our volunteers will be making a difference at churches, schools, parks, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons and in the streets."
 
The day will begin with a gathering of all volunteers on the Queens campus at approximately 9 a.m. Teams will then disperse to their various service sites around the five boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey. Sites that media are encouraged to visit are:
