Awards and Honors

 The College of Professional Studies Honor Society
The College's Honor Society recognized baccalaureate students who, by their continued academic excellence and involvement in the life of their school, church or community have demonstrated that they are honor students. Students who apply for membership must have completed a minimum of 60 credits, and thirty of these credits must have been taken in the College of Professional Studies and the applicant must have a cumulative index of 3.5 for all previous coursework as well as a 3.5 at St. John's.

Alpha Phi Sigma - Criminal Justice Honor Society
The College of Professional Studies chapter recognizes outstanding students majoring in Criminal Justice, have a 3.0 overall index for all previous coursework (including transfer credits) and a 3.2 index in the Criminal Justice major.

Lamdba Epsilon Chi - National Legal Studies Honor Society
The College of Professional Studies chapter was established to recognize academic excellence in legal Studies. Students must major in Legal Studies (either A.S. or B.S. degree candidates), achieve an overall grade point index of at least 3.0 after completion of three-quarters of all course requirements for their degree, and at least a 3.2 in the major field with at least 12 credits completed.

Academic Awards and Distinctions
Gold Keys
One bachelor's degree and one associate degree student are selected from each of the major areas of the College of Professional Studies. These students are awarded a Gold Key. The recipient of each award is selected by the Dean of the College on the basis of the student's outstanding scholastic achievement in his or her area of concentration and the recommendations of the faculty.

Silver Keys and Certificates of Achievement
These recognize other students for academic and non-academic achievement.

The Craig Collins CRJ Award
An award given annually to an outstanding member of the graduating class who is a Criminal Justice major with the highest cumulative index in the major area.

The Michelle Doherty Award
Given annually to the female student with the highest cumulative index in the Sport Management program.

Francis J. FLynn Award
An annual award for excellence in mathematics, established in memory of Professor Francis J. Flynn, faculty member and first chairman of the Division of Computer Science, Mathematics and Science.

Alexander Laubach Memorial Award
An award for excellence in security administration, established in memory of Professor Alexander Laubach, the first director of the Safety and Corporate Security (Security Administration) Program. The award is presented annually to the Security Administration graduate having the highest index in that major.

Marianne Noonan Memorial Award
Established in memory of a former Sport Management student, the award is presented annually to a senior majoring in Sport Management who had demonstrated characteristics that best exemplify a St. John's student. Academics and participation in extracurricular events and activities are considered.

Outstanding Journalism Graduate Award
Recognizes a graduating journalism major for outstanding contributions to the campus news media; professional internships; service to the Society of Professional Journalists and other campus clubs and organizations; and achievement of a high quality point index in journalism courses.

Panayotis Papadopoulos Award
Recognizes a senior majoring in a Social Science program who has demonstrated extraordinary humanitarian qualities.

The Bessie and Isidor Shapiro Memorial Award
Given annually to a Criminal Justice or Legal Studies major in recognition of motivation and demonstrated work ethic, character, and scholarship.

The Vincentian Spirit Award
Recognizes the outstanding contribution of the College of Professional Studies students to the co-curricular life on campus. Recipients are nominated by the faculty based on their contributions to the organization's success.

West Publishing Company Award for Excellence in Legal Studies
Awarded annually to a senior majoring in Legal Studies on each campus who has made the greatest contribution to the Legal Program and St. John's community.

The College of Professional Studies Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award
Given to outstanding alumni of the College of Professional Studies.
