It’s been a record-setting season for Head Coach Kim Barnes
Arico and the Women’s Basketball team, capped off by a tremendous
showing at the BIG EAST Championship.
After a dramatic overtime victory over Louisville to reach
the BIG EAST semifinals, the Associated Press ranked the Red Storm
No. 13 – the highest ever in program history. Additionally,
Barnes Arico earned BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors for the
second time in her career, while senior
Da’Shena Stevens was named American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST
Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Now in her 10th year at the helm, Barnes Arico has steered the
Johnnies to its third-straight 20-win season and, along the way,
became the all-time winningest coach in St. John’s Women’s
She also helped orchestrate one of the most thrilling upsets in
college basketball history: a last-second road win over the
then-No. 2 University of Connecticut Huskies, ending UConn’s
99-game home win streak.
The Red Storm now hopes to make a run in the upcoming Women’s NCAA
